Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team swept St. Mary's (Md.) at the Spring Tennis Fest Tuesday morning.
The Hornets kicked off the sweep with three wins in doubles play. Elizabeth Teefey and Grace Teefey took down their No. 1 opponents 8-5, Alexa Hardesty and Lara Karrass won 8-4 at No. 2, and Ashley Hair and Reese McAtee won 8-3 at No. 3. The pair of freshmen are undefeated in two matches together at the third-doubles flight.
Elizabeth Teefey won her third singles match of the season at the top flight. The senior won 6-1 in the first set and won in a tiebreak during the second 7-6 (5).
Hair also won her first set at No. 1 but dropped the second. She won in a tiebreak 10-1. She leads the team with five singles victories.
Karrass won at No. 3, Hardesty won at No. 4, Grace Teefey won easily at No. 5 with scores of 6-0, 6-4, and Jordan Ottaviano wrapped up the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
Lynchburg (4-3, 2-2 ODAC) plays Bethel (Minn.) on Thursday, March 16 at 1 p.m in Hilton Head.
