Fredericksburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's tennis freshmen Dan Hardy and Christian Zepeda highlighted the Hornets' weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship.
Hardy and Zepeda competed in the B2-doubles bracket and swept their first round opponents on Friday. They took on Nicholar Rohr and Kier Nacua from St. Mary's (Md.) in the quarterfinals and won an exciting match in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7). In the semifinals, they fell to their opponents from Catholic 8-3.
Cooper Brewen and Emile Paindavoine also earned a draw in the B2 bracket but lost in a tiebreak in the first round.
All of Lynchburg's doubles matches were closely contested as Levi Vigdorchik and Lauren Muhlhause appeared in the championship-doubles bracket but lost 7-8 (7). However, Vigdorchik and Muhlhause faced off with Ahun Vodela and Edvard Porsmyr Hansen from Christopher Newport in the consolation bracket and won 8-6. Brewen and Paindavoine also earned an 8-6 victory in their consolation match.
Vigdorchik represented the Hornets in the championship-singles bracket as well. He won the second set against Michael Fellman from Gettysburg to force a tiebreak but lost 4-10. He won his consolation match on Franklin & Marshall's Cooper Knutson 8-5.
Paindavoine dropped a close match in the B3 draw but won his consolation match 8-6 to round out Lynchburg's weekend at ITAs.
