Owings Mill, Md. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team fell 14-5 against St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon.
The eighth-ranked Hornets took on the 10th-ranked Saints in their first game of the Mustang Classic.
Riley Mitchell scored his 12th goal of the season to begin the game. However, the Saints rattled off four goals and shut out Lynchburg in the remainder of the first.
Finn Schmidt helped Lynchburg claw its way back early in the second. He scored three minutes into the second quarter and assisted on a Jake Rust goal exactly one minute later.
St. Lawrence scored a trio of goals to close out the half including two goals with less than 30 seconds on the clock and took a 7-3 lead into intermission.
The Saints shut out Lynchburg in the third quarter and increased their lead to 13-3.
Spencer Vandenberg grabbed his third goal of 2023 in the fourth quarter, and Charlie Evans scored a man-up goal late in the game. Patrick Moore and Andrew Miller played goalie in the fourth only allowing one Saints goal.
Tyler Hadley made seven saves during his 45 minutes in goal.
Lynchburg (4-3, 1-0 ODAC) looks to stop the skid on Saturday, March 18 against Franklin & Marshall in Game 2 of the Mustang Classic at 3:30.
