St. Mary's City, Md. -- Jake Rust scored a Texas hat trick, Riley Mitchell had two goals and three assists, and the No. 10-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team rolled to its second win of the season Saturday, 14-5 over St. Mary's (Md.) on the road.
After the Seahawks scored the first goal of the game, Lynchburg ripped off a 5-0 run to take control of the game, and the Hornets never looked back. The Hornets added three more goals before halftime to command a 9-3 halftime lead, and Lynchburg extended the advantage in the second half, bringing the score to its final standing.
Carter Besz, Riley Hastings, and Ian McCarthy added two goals each for Lynchburg, while Chris Darminio scored a goal, scooped eight ground balls, and caused a pair of turnovers. Tyler Hadley made 14 saves in goal.
Lynchburg (2-0) will face its first ranked opponent of the 2023 season next time out, heading to No. 14 Cabrini Saturday for a noon contest.
