Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team beat Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday Afternoon.
Nick Mattfield started on the mound for the No. 12 Hornets pitching two innings allowing one earned run on a solo shot.
Jackson Harding started the scoring for the Hornets in the 2nd inning with RBI double bringing home Gavin Collins. Harding came around to score when Josh Gjormand was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Six Hornet batters were HBP in the contest.
Ángel Collazo did not allow a run and struck out two batters in his one inning of relief in the 3rd.
In the top of the 4th, four different Lynchburg pitchers worked the bump. Jack Bachmore eventually got Lynchburg out of the inning, but not before the Marlins took the lead 4-2.
The Hornets answered in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own. Gjormand tallied his second and third RBI of the day with a double to right field, followed by RBI singles from Avery Neaves and Riley O'Donovan.
Va. Wesleyan retook the lead in the top of the 6th with the help of a two-run homer.
Lynchburg again answered quickly in the bottom of the inning with a pair of two-RBI singles from Neaves and Harding retaking the score 10-7.
Neaves provided insurance in the seventh with an RBI triple scoring Gjormand. The preseason All-American ended the day with three hits, five RBI, and two stolen bases.
Bachmore earned the win on the mound improving his record on the season to 3-0. He struck out eight and allowed three earned runs on 4.1 innings of work.
This 11-8 win moves the Hornets record to 14-3 (4-1 ODAC). Lynchburg will be on the road for their next contest at Washington & Lee to continue ODAC play Sunday.
