Misenheimer, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team scored 17 in its win over Pfeiffer Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Wesley Arrington started on the mound for the second time this season. Arrington went five innings and allowed five earned runs. The senior struck out a career-high 10 batters in the contest. His next highest came in a dominant performance over William Peace on April 19, 2022 where Arrington sat down six through seven innings.
The Hornets offense supported Arrington with a seven-run 5th inning. Josh Gjormand, Holden Fiedler, and Carrson Atkins each had an RBI single to start the scoring. Atkins and Fiedler came around to score on Riley O'Donovan's second home run of the season. The three-run shot made the score 9-3
Lynchburg scored five more runs in the 6th inning including a two-RBI homer from Carrson Atkins. The Charlottesville native was one of three Hornets with a three-RBI day.
Pfeiffer stayed in the game scoring four in the bottom of the 6th inning with a grand slam making the score 14-8.
In the 7th inning, Gavin Collins brought home freshman Josh Boelt with an RBI single. The freshman earned the start at shortstop and reached base safely three times in his debut, drawing two walks and hitting a single in the 5th.
The catcher Holden Feidler drove in Logan Webster and Gavin Collins with a single in the 7th making the score 17-8. Feidler led the team with four RBI on the day.
Alex Gianascoli and Jack Bachmore closed out the game without allowing an earned run in the final 2.1 innings. The starter Wesley Arrington earned his first win of the season.
The Hornets (11-2, 2-0 ODAC) will face Greensboro College on the road Wednesday, March 15 at Truist Stadium.
