Washington, D.C. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team polished off a perfect weekend Saturday at Gallaudet University's invitational with straight-set victories over the host Bison and Washington College.
The senior class set the pace for the Hornets (7-1); Sydney Frink led the Hornet offense with 27 kills on the day, while Lauren Stanford anchored the back line with 42 digs, and Erin Farina tallied 41 assists and 13 digs.
Lynchburg opened strong with a 25-12, 26-24, 25-22 win over Gallaudet. Frink notched a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to go with her two aces, and Stanford contributed 22 digs.
In the afternoon contest, Frink's 17 kills and three aces led the way in Lynchburg's 25-23, 25-18, 25-15 triumph over Washington. The Hornets also got eight kills from freshman Abbi Leeper along with 20 digs and six assists from Stanford. Farina notched 22 assists and eight digs.
Farina and Frink earned spots on the all-tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.
The 7-1 start matches Lynchburg's best beginning to a season since 2016.
Lynchburg's volleyball team will make its 2019 home debut Wednesday evening in the season's Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener, in which they will play host to defending league champion Washington and Lee. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
