Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team defeated visiting Shenandoah, 4-1, Wednesday night on Shellenberger Field.
Freshman Luke Mega led the Hornets (6-4-5, 3-1-2 ODAC) as he scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season in the victory.
Mega scored his first goal of the contest in the 26th minute on a header on an assist from senior Michael Lyons. Shenandoah responded at the end of the first half in the 41st minute on an unassisted goal from Trace Becker to knot the match at one-all.
Lynchburg regained the lead before the break on an unassisted goal from sophomore Joey Daly as he beat a Shenandoah defender and found the bottom right corner of the net to put Lynchburg up 2-1.
Lynchburg tacked onto their lead on an unassisted goal from Mega in the 66th minute, his second of the game. In the 75th minute, freshman Carter Averette scored off of a deflection off the crossbar after a shot by junior Ben Mackey to seal the win for the Hornets.
The Lynchburg defense held the Shenandoah offense to only one shot on the night.
The Lynchburg men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 as the Hornets will travel to Virginia Wesleyan University for a 6 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Conference match against the Marlins.
