Methodist Men Rally for 68-64 win over Lynchburg
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Methodist University men's basketball team erased a nine-point second half deficit and went on to defeat visiting Lynchburg College 68-64 Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Hornets took a 36-31 lead into halftime and pushed the advantage to nine early in the second half (47-38). The Monarchs netted 10-straight points to claim the lead and the contest was a four-point game the rest of the way.
LC junior Zack Burnett made a pair of free throws at the 2:07 mark to give the Hornets a 62-61 advantage. Brandon Monk drilled a three-pointer and Mike Major connected on a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left to put MU ahead 67-64 and the Hornets couldn't convert a three-point attempt with five seconds left to tie the game.
Hornet junior Lyndon White posted 17 points (8-10 shooting) and grabbed 10 rebounds while senior post-man Alex Graves also had 17 points with five rebounds. Burnett and Daniel Rowe each scored nine points and Devante' Young had eight points and four steals. Omar Kemp snared nine rebounds.
Monk hit nine of his 14 shot attempts and three three-pointers to pace Methodist (4-4) with 23 points. Tabias Hilliard and Irving Aughburns each scored nine and Troynell Reese tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
Lynchburg (4-3) host Goucher College Saturday at 5 p.m. in more non-conference action.
