Hornets cross country shines at Covered Bridge Invite

Lynchburg's women were sixth at the Covered Bridge Invite in Boone, N.C.

Boone, N.C. -- Lynchburg College's cross country teams didn't waste any time jumping into the frey this season. The Hornets traveled to Appalachian State University for the Covered Bridge Invitational, joining a field comprised mostly of NCAA Division I and II talent, and they held their own.

On the women's side, Samantha Schreiber (Gladys, Va.) and Morgan Alvis (Concord, Va.) continued to shine, helping the Hornets to a sixth-place finish of the 12 schools contending. Sophomore Michela Cholak (Ocean Township, N.J.) had a breakout day for Lynchburg's women, too, finishing just behind the two All-ODAC performers.

On the men's side, lead returner Tristan Lucy-Speidel (Fort Valley, Va.) set the pace, and with help from freshmen Roy Stevenson (Richmond, Va.) and Hunter Frizzell (Fredericksburg, Va.), put Lynchburg 10th in the team standings.

The Hornet cross country teams don't compete again until Sept. 15, when they'll head to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational.
