Volleyball sweeps Roanoke with balanced attack

Salem, Va. -- Three players chipped in eight kills apiece as Lynchburg College's volleyball team won three close sets en route to a sweep of Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Roanoke on Friday night.

Sophomores Lindsey Lang (Poquoson, Va.), Sydney Frink (Chester, Va.), and Jalissa Linz (York, Pa.) each spiked eight kills for Lynchburg. Linz added 13 digs from the back row as Lynchburg won its fourth-straight match.

- Roanoke jumped out to an 11-2 advantage in the first, but the Hornets were able to stop the bleeding and chip away. Lynchburg fought back with a 9-1 run of its own to take a 21-20 lead, and the Hornets were able to finish the set off.

- The Hornets began the second with a 9-1 run of their own, but Roanoke battled to within one point several times with the set in the 20s. Frink put it away with three straight kills for LC.

- Lynchburg put the clinching set away with a 10-2 run to finish it, highlighted by Linz's kill to ice the match.

- Hornets libero Lauren Stanford (Mechanicsville, Va.) had a team-high 19 digs and has now reached double-digit digs in 12 of Lynchburg's 13 matches.



The Hornets will look to make it five straight when they head to Washington and Lee on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
