LC Volleyball Sweeps Virginia Wesleyan, Falls to Messiah in Tri-Match

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team played in a pair of matches on Saturday, losing to Messiah College in three sets (25-19, 26-24, 25-19), and sweeping Virginia Wesleyan (25-18, 25-15, 25-23) in non-conference play.
In the first match, LC lost in straight sets against Messiah. Senior Elena Kritter led the team in kills with 10. Senior Rachel Huffman assisted on five blocks, while junior Mallory Stewart assisted on four. Junior Molly Deacon led the team in digs with 11 and fellow junior Rachel Turk had 18 assists, while junior Brook Moughon recorded 12.
Emily Hall and Lauren Rees led Messiah (19-5) with seven kills each, while Jessica Geib had 24 assists.
In the second match for the Hornets, Lynchburg defeated Virginia Wesleyan College in straight sets. The Hornets took the first set 25-18 and the second set 25-15. The third set was a thrilling game full of lead changes resulting in a 25-23 win for LC.
Huffman and junior Rebecca Loftis led the team in kills with seven each, while Moughon led the Hornets in assists with 18. Kritter and freshman Casey Parrish both recorded 10 digs in the match. LC registered 14 blocks in the match, Loftis and Stewart tallying four blocks each.
Kayla Guy led Virginia Wesleyan (12-14) with 10 kills and Mallory Slade had 23 assists.
Lynchburg (15-9) will host Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Randolph College for senior night on Wednesday, October 26 at 6:30 pm.
