Hornets Volleyball Drops Five-set Match to Washington and Lee

LYNCHBURG, VA –
The Lynchburg College Hornets volleyball team lost in five sets to the visiting Washington and Lee University Generals in a match Saturday featuring two of the best teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

The Hornets won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-21, before falling in the last three sets 25-19, 25-18, and 15-11.  Lynchburg was paced by Elena Kritter.  The senior registered 12 digs, one service ace, and a game-high 18 kills, 10 coming in the last two sets.  Aricquel Payne and Rachel Huffman each added eight kills for the team, with junior Mallory Stewart contributing seven kills.

Junior setters Rachel Turk and Brooke Moughon led the Hornets in assists with 21 and 20, respectively.  Turk finished with 13 digs and Moughon served three aces, each leading the team.

The Generals (25-2 overall, 10-0 ODAC) were led by M.A. Boles , who finished with 15 kills and 11 digs.  Sophomore setter Meghan Meleski had 12 digs to go along with her game-high 39 assists.  Libero Cameron Hill had game-highs in both digs and aces, with 17 and seven respectively.

The Hornets (14-7, 6-2) travel to Randolph-Macon College Wednesday, for a 7 p.m. start.  The match-up will be important for deciding seeding in the ODAC tournament, with the Yellow Jackets currently holding on to the second-seed and the Hornets sitting in third.
