Hornets Outlast Quakers in Five

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team held on to defeat visiting Guilford College in five sets Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.

LC took the first two games by comfortable margins of 25-14 and 25-17 before the Quakers fought back, winning the next two 16-25 and 23-25. Lynchburg took an early 5-2 edge in the fifth and deciding game and never looked back en route to a 15-10 win.

Junior Rachel Turk handed out 54 assists to fuel the LC offense and added eight digs. Freshman Aricquel Payne delivered a game-high 15 kills with 14 digs and three blocks. Senior Elena Kritter contributed 14 kills and 12 digs and junior Rachel Huffman had 10 kills and four blocks. Freshman Moriah Sedlak posted nine kills and three blocks while Rebecca Loftis had eight kills. Junior Molly Deacon had a team-high 16 digs.

Emma Gunn had 13 kills for Guilford (7-13/3-4), while Taylor Whitley had 34 assists and Taylor Phillips had 19 digs.

Lynchburg (14-6/6-1 ODAC) hosts first-place Washington & Lee University Saturday at 1 p.m.
