LC Volleyball Falls to #3 Emory University, Ohio Northern
ATLANTA, GA – Third-ranked Emory University defeated the Lynchburg College volleyball team on Saturday by a score of 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 19-25) in non-conference action in the Emory National Tournament. LC also fell to Ohio Northern University in the second match of the day by a score of 3-1.
Freshman Aricquel Payne led the Hornets with eight kills and added a team-high nine digs. Junior Rebecca Loftis added six kills and two solo blocks as fellow junior Rachel Turk led the team with 19 assists and registered four digs.
Freshman Brittany Crawford and junior Molly Deacon each had six kills. Emory's Amelia McCall and Breanah Bourque each had 12 kills to lead the Eagles (23-1). Emory also had 10 total team blocks in the match.
Payne led the Hornets in the second match of the day with 18 kills, Moriah Sedlak posted nine kills and Huffman tallied seven kills and four blocks. Deacon had 28 digs against Ohio Northern, Payne had 16 and Crawford had 14.
For her efforts this weekend, Payne was named to the Emory National Tournament all-tournament team. She registered a team leading 48 kills in the two-day tournament.
Lynchburg (13-6/5-1 ODAC) hosts Guilford College on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Turner Gym.
