Lynchburg Volleyball Defeats Piedmont, Falls to Maryville
ATLANTA, GA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team defeated Piedmont College 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-21) and fell to Maryville College in three sets (26-28, 16-25, 16-25) on Friday night at the Emory National Tournament at Emory University in Georgia.
LC freshman Aricquel Payne led the Hornets in the first match against Piedmont with ten kills. Senior Elena Kritter chipped in eight kills while junior Mallory Stewart added seven kills. Kritter also registered 14 digs in the match. Junior setter Rachel Turk paced Lynchburg with 31 assists and ten digs. Junior Molly Deacon led the team with 28 digs and fellow junior Rebecca Loftis had two solo blocks.
In the second match against Maryville, Lynchburg fell in a close first set 26-28 and fell 16-25 in the next two sets. Payne led the Hornets in the match with 12 kills and had two service aces. Freshman Brittany Crawford had two service aces as well. Turk had 24 assists and 12 digs.
Lynchburg (13-4) continues play in the Emory National Tournament on Saturday with a match against Emory University at noon and a match against Ohio Northern University at 2 p.m.
