Lynchburg Volleyball Falls to Virginia Wesleyan 3-0

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Virginia Wesleyan University defeated the Lynchburg College volleyball team on Wednesday night 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 13-25) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Kala Guy led the Marlins with 14 kills in the match while freshman Aricquel Payne led the Hornets with seven kills. Freshman Casey Parrish and junior Rachel Huffman each had six kills in the match while junior Rebecca Loftis chipped in five.

The first set was tied at 21-21 until Guy scored three out of the next four points to give the Marlins the first set victory. Set two was close throughout as well, with both teams locked at 22 after a Payne kill. Virginia Wesleyan would rally to take the second set 25-23 and finish off the Hornets 25-13 in the third for the sweep.

Junior Molly Deacon led the Hornets with seven digs while Huffman assisted on a team-high four blocks. Lynchburg out-blocked Virginia Wesleyan (6-8/3-2 ODAC) as a team, 7.5 to 1 block for the Marlins. Junior Rachel Turk registered 26 assists in the match.

Lynchburg (10-3/4-2 ODAC) heads to Southern Virginia University on Friday night for a match at 7 p.m.
