Balanced Attack from Hornets Takes Down Emory & Henry in Four Games

Lynchburg, VA - The Hornets had four players with more than nine kills Tuesday evening, as Lynchburg College beat the visiting Emory and Henry College Wasps 3-1, in both teams Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener.

The Hornets won the first game 25-16, but struggled at the beginning of the second game.  Despite a strong comeback to tie the score at 19-19, the Wasps managed to hold on to win the second game 20-25.  Lynchburg took the third set 25-18, and won a hard fought fourth game, 25-22.

Junior Rachel Huffman led the Hornets with 12 kills and six blocks, while classmate Rebecca Loftis chipped in with 10 kills.  Not to be outdone by the juniors, freshmen Moriah Sedlak and Aricquel Payne contributed with 10 and nine kills respectively.  Sedlak also had five blocks, while Payne finished her complete performance totaling two blocks, two service aces, and a team leading 13 digs.

Juniors Brooke Moughon and Rachel Turk assisted on 28 and 17 of the kills, respectively.  Libero Molly Deacon added 12 digs for the Hornets.

The Wasps (3-3, 0-1) were led by Kimmie Caudill and Nicole Tesh, who each recorded 11 kills in the match.  Fallon Davis recorded a match-high 33 assists for Emory-Henry.

The Hornets (6-1, 1-0 ODAC) continue ODAC play this Friday, traveling to Bridgewater (Va.) for a 7 pm match.  Lynchburg returns home next Wednesday, the 21st, to take on ODAC rival Roanoke College at 6:30 pm.
