Women's tennis looks to make program history in ODAC tourney

Lynchburg, Va. -- Continuing one of the best seasons in the program's history, the Lynchburg College women's tennis team enters the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed in the eight-team field.

Tournament play begins Tuesday versus sixth-seeded Roanoke at 2 p.m. on the LC Tennis Courts. With a win, the Hornets (12-6) will tie the program record for wins in a season, set in 1991 when the Hornets were 13-7.

The tournament will be an eight-team, single-elimination bracket with the final four teams heading to Virginia Beach, Va., and Virginia Wesleyan University to decide the championship over the weekend. The winner of Lynchburg and Roanoke will match up with the winner of Tuesday's match between seventh-seeded Virginia Wesleyan and No. 2-seeded Randolph-Macon.

Defending conference champion Washington and Lee, Sweet Briar, Bridgewater, and Randolph make up the other side of the bracket.

Lynchburg has never won the ODAC championship in women's tennis. The program has won just one postseason match, beating Emory & Henry, 5-2, in the first round in 2008, since the league began the dual-play tournament format 12 seasons ago.
