Washington and Lee bests women's tennis in ODAC match

Christina Harris follows through on a tennis shot.

Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College women's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw Thursday afternoon, dropping a 7-2 decision to 14-time defending conference champion Washington and Lee in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

Both of Lynchburg's points against the No. 15-ranked Generals came on forfeits, as W&L traveled with just five players.

Sophomore Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) won the Hornets' lone set of the afternoon but eventually fell, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to the Generals' Michelle Fleenor at No. 1 singles. The loss was just Harris' fourth of her Lynchburg career and brought an end to her bid for an undefeated spring.

Freshman Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) also fought hard at No. 5 singles, but the first-year fell 6-2, 7-5 to W&L's Ashton Jenne.

Lynchburg will have a quick turnaround, hitting the road for Randolph-Macon at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27 for both teams' regular-season finale. The winner of the match will carry the No. 2 seed into the upcoming ODAC tournament.
