Women's tennis falls to Milligan in spring break opener

Christina Harris follows through on a tennis shot.

Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The Lynchburg College women's tennis team kicked off its 2018 stay at the Spring Tennis Fest with an 8-1 defeat at the hands of NAIA member Milligan Sunday afternoon at Hilton Head Island, S.C.'s Van der Meer Tennis Center.

Sophomore Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) earned the Hornets' lone point at No. 1 singles, defeating the Buffaloes' Lexie Hill, 6-0, 6-1.

Junior Sarah Wyly (Leesburg, Va.) took a set at No. 3 singles but eventually fell, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5, to Minda Martin in that match.

Wyly and sophomore Halle Lavieri (Killingworth, Conn.) fared best in the doubles portion, eventually dropping an 8-5 decision.

Lynchburg's women fall back to an even 3-3 on the season, but they'll have ample opportunity to improve on that record throughout the week on Hilton Head. The Hornets will return to action Wednesday, March 7 against Nebraska Wesleyan at the Shipyard Racquet Club.
