CNU Defeats LC Women's Lax 13-11; Bri Slate Nets Five
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Despite five goals from senior midfielder Bri Slate, the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team was defeated Saturday afternoon at Christopher Newport University 13-11 in non-conference play.
Lynchburg got on the board first, as Caroline Kilby found the back of the net on an assist from Slate at the 26:19 mark. The Captains scored the next four goals, but LC closed the gap to only 6-5 at intermission.
CNU took a 13-9 lead with nine minutes remaining before Lynchburg posted back-to-back scores from Kilby and Ryland Scott to get back within striking distance with 2:54 left on the game clock. The Hornets had a couple of late chances to pull within a single goal, but Captain goalie Hanna Slough made two key saves in the final minute.
Slate finished with five goals and an assist, while Katherine Francis and Caroline Carozza each had a goal and an assist. Laura Meisner, Scott, Paige Gadsby and Kilby also scored. Francis had five draw controls, and Maddie Koontz contributed four ground balls and three four draw controls. Hailey Bossert made 12 saves for LC.Ashton Marshall had four goals and an assist for CNU (7-5), and Meaghan Galvin posted three goals and three assists.
The Hornets (5-7) travel to Virginia Wesleyan College for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game Wednesday at 5 p.m.
