Bri Slate Scores Four as LC Downs Shenandoah Women's Lax 8-6
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior attack Bri Slate scored four goals Saturday evening to lead the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team to an 8-6 victory over visiting Shenandoah University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The teams opened the game by trading goals the first 15 minutes and the score was 3-3 before LC assumed command. Three-straight tallies, two from Kira Castle, gave the Hornets a 6-3 lead heading into intermission. Shenandoah cut the lead to 6-4 and again to 7-5 with 10:41 left in the game, but an insurance goal from Ryland Scott pushed the lead to three. A late SU score wasn't enough as the LC defense held on.
Junior goalie Hailey Bossert made nine saves for Lynchburg. Katherine Francis scored for LC and corralled three draw controls, and Caroline Kilby handed out an assist. Brianna LaMarca and Francis each caused two turnovers.
Samantha Donaghy had four scores for Shenandoah (4-5/1-2 ODAC), and Liz Bereit tallied a goal and an assist. Ashley Cross stopped nine LC shots in net.
The Hornets (3-4/2-2 ODAC) host Centre College Wednesday at 5:30 in a non-conference game.
