LC Women's Lacrosse Cruise to 24-1 Win at Hollins
ROANOKE, VA – The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team scored the first five goals of the game en route to a 24-1 win over Hollins University on Thursday, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both schools.
Katie Seidel got the scoring started just 21 seconds into the game. The midfielder took control of the opening draw and scored her second of the season. The Hornets' Rachel Sard won the next draw control and LC scored its second goal 23 seconds later, with Ryland Scott connecting on a pass from Bri Slate. Maddie Koontz, Caroline Kilby, and Katherine Francis then added scores to the Lynchburg total to push the lead to 5-0.
Hollins attack Brandi Chesne stopped the Hornets run with a goal at 21:42, but there would be no more for HU. Lynchburg scored the remaining 19 goals in the game, with 10 in the first half and nine after the intermission.
Kilby put her name in the record books with nine points on the day (five goals, four assists), which ties for eighth all-time for a single game. Caroline Carozza and Laura Meisner each registered their first career hat tricks, with Carozza assisting on another. Seidel, Francis, Koontz, Abby Sard, and Alexa Carey each put two in the back of the cage. It was the first career two-goal game for Koontz, Sard, and Carey, as well as the first career-goal for Carey. Shannon Brockley and Slate were the other goal scorers.
The Hornets (1-2, 1-0) return to nonconference action on Saturday. LC hosts Berry College at noon, as part of a lacrosse double-header, with the men hosting Gettysburg College afterwards.
