Marymount Defeats LC Women's Lacrosse 10-8
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Marymount University women's lacrosse team scored six-straight second-half goals Saturday to earn a 10-8 win at Lynchburg College in non-conference play.
Lynchburg stormed out to a 4-2 lead midway through the first half, with goals by four-different Hornets. The Saints knotted the score at four with two tallies of their own, but Bri Slate scored for LC and the Hornets took a 5-4 lead into halftime.
Caroline Carozza scored her second goal of the game with 20 minutes left in the contest to push the Lynchburg lead to two before Marymount took over with the 6-0 run. LC challenged late with two goals, but keeper Kiki Niebuhr made a save on a Lynchburg attempt with 1:23 on the game clock and the Saints were able to run out the rest of the time.
Slate, Caroline Kilby and Kira Castle each had a goal and an assist for LC, while Katherine Francis, Katie Seidel and Ryland Scott also scored. Hailey Bossert made 14 saves in net for the Hornets, and Brianna LaMarca caused four turnovers and scooped four groundballs. Francis had five groundballs and three draw controls and Castle posted four draw controls.
Taylor Johnson scored four times for the Saints (1-0) and Megan McGuirk tallied three goals and two assists. Courtney Oehl found the back of the net three times. Niebuhr earned the win in net, allowing just four goals in a 44:37 of playing time with nine stops.
Lynchburg (0-2) opens its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule Thursday with a road game at Hollins University at 4 p.m.
