Mary Washington Defeats LC Women's Lax 17-8 in Season Opener

LYNCHBURG, VA – Jenna Petrucelli scored seven times and snared nine draw controls Wednesday to lead The University of Mary Washington to a 17-8 victory at Lynchburg College in non-conference play.

UMW led 2-0 and 5-2 before LC rallied behind scores from Ryland Scott and Bri Slate to pull within one goal. Five straight Eagle goals by five-different scorers put Mary Washington ahead 10-4 and the UMW led by at least five goals the rest of the way.

Slate and Caroline Carozza each scored twice for LC, while Caroline Kilby, Katherine Francis, Maddie Koontz and Scott each had one tally. Katie Seidel had one assist. Rachel Sard and Brianna LaMarca each caused four turnovers while LaMarca scooped a team-best five ground balls.   

Katie Williams posted four goals and an assists for UMW (2-1), and Emily Atkinson had a hat trick. Maggie Nunn caused four turnovers and had four ground balls.

Lynchburg (0-1) hosts Marymount University Saturday at 2 p.m. in more non-conference play.
