Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg College women's basketball team used stifling defense to earn its second Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season Wednesday, a 56-35 triumph over crosstown rival Randolph.
The Hornet defense held Randolph to just 14-for-44 from the field (31.8 percent), and the LC team out-rebounded the hosts 43-34.
Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) led Lynchburg in scoring with 16 points, and the junior forward chipped in nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Senior forward Caroline Naumann (Mechanicsville, Va.) scored 14 points to go with 15 rebounds and four steals. Senior guard Olivia DeFrancesco (Greensboro, N.C.) hit three 3-pointers on her way to a 13-point, seven-rebound evening.
The win was Lynchburg's 16th straight in the Hill City Rivalry.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The WildCats took their only lead of the contest with the game's first basket, but DeFrancesco sank a pair of free throws 1:55 into the game, Naumann made a layup on the next possession, and LC never trailed again.
- The Hornets stretched the lead to double figures with an 11-2 run sandwiched around the end of the first period. LC held off a Randolph run late in the second, using a pair of DeFrancesco 3s to enter the half up 11.
- Shephard went 4-for-5 from the floor in the first half on her way to a half-leading 10 points.
- Naumann led the way for LC with nine points after halftime.
Lynchburg continues Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a trip to Bridgewater College. First whistle blows at 2 p.m.
