LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Head coach Dawn Simmons and her staff are pleased to announce the Lynchburg Hornets softball schedule for the upcoming 2018 season.
The spring's slate will be among the toughest in recent memory for the Hornets, featuring doubleheaders against four 2017 NCAA Division III tournament teams, including all three of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's representatives in last spring's bracket.
Lynchburg will begin the season Sunday, Feb. 11 at home on Aubrey Moon Field against the Methodist Monarchs. The squad will face an early road test against defending USA South Conference champion Averett on Tuesday, March 6.
The Hornets will open ODAC play Wednesday, March 21 across town at Randolph College. That Saturday, March 24, defending national champion and conference rival Virginia Wesleyan will play host to Lynchburg.
The Hornets will face off with another NCAA tournament qualifier the following weekend, March 31, with a trip to Randolph-Macon.
April brings a full slate of conference double-dips, highlighted by an April 21 home date with Emory & Henry, the league's third NCAA tournament team a season ago, to close out the regular season.
Coach Simmons' squad looks to build on a 29-15 record from last spring and a 12-8 mark in the ODAC. The Hornets won a pair of ballgames in conference tournament play.
