EMU Eliminates LC Softball 6-4

SALEM, VA – Top Seeded Eastern Mennonite University defeated Lynchburg College Friday afternoon 6-4 to eliminate the Hornets from the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Tournament.

The Hornets scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Taylor Walker led off with a double and Katie Bruce homered to center field to give LC a 2-0 advantage. Bruce's long-ball was the first thus far of the tournament through nine games, with the fences at 210 feet down the lines and 230 in center, compared to 190 and 210 last year.  Amanda Parker later singled to drive in Rachel Gallagher.

EMU scored two runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings to go ahead 6-3, taking advantage of Hornet errors in each frame. LC threatened in the bottom of the seventh scoring one run with a runner on second base with two outs. But EMU's Lisa Lee got out of the jam and the Royals advance to the next round.

Gallagher raked three base hits for LC while Meagan Fredenberg was 2-4. Bruce threw a complete-game for the Hornets, allowing three earned runs and 11 hits with three strikeouts.

Megan Viafora went 3-3 for Eastern Mennonite (27-12) with two stolen bases. Lee worked 5 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win, allowing five hits and no earned runs.

The Hornets end their season with a 21-18 record.
