HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 2-1 in the early going, Lynchburg took the lead with three straight goals from three different Hornets. W&L broke up the run with a score, but LC netted two more before the end of the frame -- the last from Lombardo to complete his first-period hat trick -- and the Hornets led 6-3 after 15 minutes of play.
The Generals outscored LC 4-1 in the second period to enter halftime tied, 7-7.
Lynchburg survived a man-down situation to start the second-half, but W&L scored a pair of unanswered goals in the early going to take a 9-7 lead. LC responded with two more scores to knot the game again, and McGuire and sophomore attackman Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.) scored a pair more to end the period ahead, 11-10.
W&L opened the fourth with a 4-0 run to take control of the game, and late goals by Lombardo and junior attackman Logan Adams (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) weren't enough to bring LC back.
Lynchburg will remain home on Wednesday, April 25 to take on the Hornets of Shenandoah. The face-off is set for 7 p.m.
