Avon, Conn. -- The Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) announced its NCAA Division III All Region Teams and the Lynchburg Men's Lacrosse program had senior Cole Barrett and sophomores Seamus McDonald and Evan Lombardo named to one of the All-South Region teams.
This trio was also selected as the First Team All-ODAC representatives for Lynchburg at their respective positions. Barrett and Lombardo went on to also be selected as USILA/Nike All-Americans, with Barrett earning Third Team and Lombardo being named an Honorable Mention.
Barrett earned First-Team honors as a defenseman. The economics major forced a team-leading 23 turnovers while securing 39 groundballs. Barret was the anchor of the Lynchburg defense which allowed just 8.78 goals against per game, second best in conference play. This is the third time Barrett has been named all-conference and the second time to the first team.
McDonald was also named to the First Team but at the long stick midfield position. The Far Hills, N.J. native scooped up 46 ground balls and forced 19 turnovers while also getting involved in the attack, finishing the 2017 campaign with two goals and three assists. The Elementary Education major recorded a career-high four ground balls in back-to-back games against Franklin & Marshall and Cabrini in the beginning of the season.
At attack, Lombardo picked up Second Team honors after registering 75 total points. The Franklin Park, N.J. native led the ODAC with 61 goals while also adding 14 assists on the year. The Education major had two six goal performances this past Spring, the first coming at Shenandoah on April 5th and then against Roanoke in the ODAC semifinals on May 5th.
