From the Face-Off

The Hornets looked strong in the first period, leading 4-3 following the first 15 minutes of play but the ensuing 45 minutes did not follow suit. Denison would hold Lynchburg scoreless in the second period and head into halftime up, 8-4. The third period was a closer contest but the Big Red still held the advantage 4-3 and entered the final period out in front 12-7. The Hornets just couldn't get a solid rhythm going in the fourth period and the Big Red scored six to advance to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.

Game Breakdown

- Denison opened the scoring at the 13:44 mark

- Junior Colin McGuire responded just over a minute later, leveling the score at 1-1

- Sophomore Logan Adams found sophomore Evan Lombardo who scored to give the Hornets their first lead at the 9:35 mark

- Senior Harrison Brennan got his day going with an assist to sophomore Andrew Thomas with eight minutes to play in the period

- Denison would get two unassisted goals in the 6th and 7th minutes to tie the score at three

- Lombardo capped off the scoring in the first period after McGuire found him for a score with four and half minutes left to play

- The Big Red would hold the Hornets scoreless in the second period and proceed to take an 8-4 lead, capitalizing off two man-up opportunities to close out the second period

- Brennan opened the second half scoring five minutes in, drawing the Hornets within three

- Denison responded with four straight to go up 12-5 with 6:40 remaining

- The momentum shifted back to Lynchburg after Adams and Brennan netted unassisted goals to close out the third period

- Needing a spark to start the fourth period, Brennan did just with a beautiful shot that found the back of the net at the 13:30 mark

- Denison did not allow a comeback, rattling off four straight to extend their lead eight

- Lombardo who score the final Lynchburg goal with just under five minutes to play but the Big Red would add two more to make the final score of 18-9
