#16 Men's Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short to #9 Amherst, 10-8

From the Face-Off

The #16 Hornets played its second game in two days in the Mustang Classic where they fell to #9 Amherst.

Game Breakdown

- Amherst came out of the gates firing with three goals in the opening three minutes of the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead

- Amherst added one more goal with 5:13 left in in the quarter to go up 4-0

- Sophomore Colin Dean would spark the Hornets with an unassisted goal to cut the lead to three with 2:18 left in quarter one

- Senior Harrison Brennan scored two minutes into the second quarter

- Capping off the 3-0 run was sophomore Andrew Thomas off an assist from sophomore Seamus McDonald

- Amherst would end the Lynchburg run with 6:49 left in quarter two to bring the deficit to two goals

- Battling back once again were the Hornets when Brennan netted his second goal of the night at the 5:16 mark in the second quarter

- In the final two minutes of the half, Thomas was assisted by McDonald to tie the game at 5-5

- The Hornets would take their first lead of the game when junior Robert Logan tailed a goal at the 11:28 mark of the third quarter

- Both teams would exchange goals at the 8:54 mark when Amherst tied the game which was then followed up with junior Colin McGuire feeding senior Chris Camarca to put Lynchburg back up 7-6 with 5:10 left in the third quarter

- Amherst would go on to score two goals in a five second span (4:55 and 4:50) to regain the lead 8-7

- The first nine and a half minutes of the fourth quarter were scoreless before Amherst found the back of the net with only 5:36 remaining

- Lynchburg made its final push when senior Daniel Owens scored an unassisted goal to bring the Hornets within one with just 4:47 remaining

- Amherst would end the Lynchburg comeback with 1:56 left in the game to go up for the eventual final of 10-8

Inside the Box Score

- Junior goalie CJ Santora made 16 saves for the second game in a row

- Both teams were 11-22 in face-offs won

- A combined 89 shots were taken between Lynchburg and Amherst

- Amherst was 2-3 on Man-Up opportunities, while the Hornets were 0-1
