Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg athletics and head men's basketball coach Hilliary Scott are thrilled to unveil the Hornet men's basketball schedule for the 2018-19 season.
Hornet fans will have no shortage of opportunities to see their team early on, as Lynchburg begins the year with a seven-game homestand. The schedule features 14 home dates in sum.
Lynchburg will open the season by welcoming a familiar foe into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, though the season-opening date with league-newcomer Ferrum (Thursday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m.) will be a non-conference affair. The two will square off in their first-ever ODAC matchup later in the season, Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in Ferrum.
The Hornets' homestand continues Sunday, Nov. 11 at noon against St. Mary's (Md.) before Lynchburg gears up for conference play early in the year.
ODAC play begins Saturday, Nov. 17 when Randolph makes the trip across town for the 2 p.m. league opener. Two more league games follow when Eastern Mennonite (Sunday, Nov. 25, 2 p.m.) and defending league champion Emory & Henry (Wednesday, Nov. 28, 7 p.m.) pay visits to Turner Gymnasium.
The homestand wraps up with Lynchburg's inaugural Wayne Proffitt Classic, a two-day tournament named in honor of the legendary Hornets coach. Lynchburg will take on Mary Washington and Christopher Newport on Dec. 1-2, respectively, and will swap opponents with Randolph in the jamboree.
The first road game of 2018-19 comes Wednesday, Dec. 5 with a 7 p.m. ODAC tilt at Guilford, the last league contest for Lynchburg prior to the new year.
After dates at Methodist and at home against McDaniel (Sunday, Dec. 16, 4 p.m.), Lynchburg will break for Christmas before wrapping up the year Dec. 29-30 at Guilford's holiday tournament, where they will face off with Muskingum and Greensboro.
Lynchburg returns home on New Year's Day for a 4 p.m. non-conference tilt with Averett before returning to ODAC play. Home events in 2019 include Saturday, Jan. 12 vs. Virginia Wesleyan (2 p.m.), Wednesday, Jan. 23 vs. Guilford (7 p.m.), Saturday, Jan. 26 vs. Randolph-Macon (4:30 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 2 vs. Bridgewater (2 p.m.), and Saturday, Feb. 9 vs. Shenandoah (5:30 p.m.), when the team will celebrate Senior Day.
Lynchburg is coming off a 15-12 campaign and the program's seventh-straight trip to the Salem Civic Center for the ODAC tournament weekend.
