Newport News, Va. -- Lynchburg College men's basketball junior Connor Schroeder was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors 2017-18 College Division All-State second team, the organization announced Friday morning.
Schroeder, a 6-foot-7 forward from Blacksburg, Va., led the Hornets in scoring average (15.8 points per game) and 3-pointers (73) last season, a mark that also led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, on his way to first-team All-ODAC honors.
He helped Lynchburg to an 18-15 overall record in 2017-18 and a first-round win in conference tournament play to lift the Hornets to a game in the Salem Civic Center and the ODAC quarterfinals for the seventh-straight season.
His 73 3-pointers were the third-best single-season mark in the program's history, as were his 170 attempts from long range.
Schroeder's honor marks the third-straight season Lynchburg has had a presence on the all-state teams, following co-player of the year Zack Burnett in 2016-17 and player of the year Alex Graves in 2015-16, who was joined by Burnett on the teams.
As for the 2017-18 superlatives, Averett's James Contreras, Jr., was named player of the year, while Dimetri Chambers of Bridgewater took the honor of top rookie. Christopher Newport's John Krikorian was named coach of the year.
