Lynchburg Field Hockey Defeats St. Mary's 10-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – Three different Lynchburg College field hockey players scored two goals each on Sunday as LC defeated St. Mary's College 10-0 in a non-conference matchup.

Senior Deanna Smith, junior Lindsay Leonard and freshman Katie Kline all had two tallies in the victory. Leonard added two assists in the game as well.

LC took the initial 1-0 lead at 15:51 of the first half when Kline capitalized on a pass from senior Kristina Morris. Leonard scored less than two minutes later to make it 2-0 before Smith scored back-to-back goals at 20:58 and 22:18.

Sophomore Kelli Williams scored at 29:58 to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead going into halftime. Kline, Leonard, and Morris would all chip in second-half goals to extend the LC lead to 8-0.

Senior Tarah Rahner extended the lead to 9-0 at 56:51 before junior Colleen Dore netted a shot at 69:34 to make it a 10-0 final score for Lynchburg. Senior Tiffany Frye made one save before yielding to sophomores Hannah Myers and Jordan Seeley. Seeley ended the game with three saves.

St. Mary's (1-3) goalies Christy Bishop and Anastasia Wash each made four saves in the contest.

Lynchburg (6-1) will play its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match next Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 1 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
