FALLS CHURCH, Va. – Lynchburg College rising sophomore Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and her doubles partner, Nicole Hammond, took first place in the women's open doubles division of the VA Open ATP/WTA Top 500 tournament this past weekend at Falls Church's Jefferson District Park.
Harris and Hammond defeated top-seeded duo Annie Clark and Valerie Marshall, 8-6, in Sunday's championship match.
"Congrats to Christina and her partner!" Hornets director of men's and women's tennis Chris Johnson said. "She has been working hard this summer, and it is clearly paying off."
Harris returns to LC this fall hoping to build on a strong freshman campaign that earned her the 2017 Lynchburg Sports Female Rookie of the Year honor, along with first-team All-ODAC honors at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles and a first-team all-state honor from the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
